Recommended Trailer Hitch And Trailer Wiring For 2017 GMC Acadia Without Factory Tow Package

Question:

Hello, Considering a 2017 GMC Arcadia. am sure I can do it but would like to see a set of instructions in advance. I have installed hitches before, but this one is a 10 out of 10 difficulty. Also, if my vhec. does NOT have the factory tow package can you please give me suggestion/instructions on wiring for 4 and 7 pin? THANKS SO MUCH,

The trailer hitch we offer that is designed for your 2017 Acadia is the Draw-Tite, part # 76023. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. If you are mechanically inclined you should be able to install the hitch with no problem. If you are not comfortable you can have a trusted mechanic complete the installation for you. I am attaching the installation instructions in a separate email.

If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

For a 7-way trailer connector all you need is part # 118276. This plugs into the vehicle wiring located behind the rear bumper under the center of the vehicle.

To get a trailer connector with a functioning 4-way and 7-way connector you will need part # HM40975. This will plug into the connector from the # 118276 and also comes with a mounting bracket.

You list two different hitches for the 2020 Acadia Denali. One with AT4 and one without. what are you referring to when you ask AT4 ?

The AT4 is a submodel of the GMC Acadia. If you don't have the Acadia AT4 then you'll go with the "excluding AT4" hitch options. If you're not sure - the easiest thing to do will be to simply call a local GM dealer with your VIN and they will be able to tell you what specific model you have.
