Is Trimming Required to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line
Question:
I have the 2016 VW Tiguan R-Line. how do I know the cut out locations for the Hitch. Do you have a recommended distance to cut out from either the driver or passenger side of the vehicle? There is also a plug attached to the bumper underneath is this available to attach a wiring harness? Thanks for any assistance.

Since your 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line does not have the removable fascia piece there will be some trimming required to install the etrailer trailer hitch # e98906. I have included a picture that shows where and how much to trim.
If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
I am not sure what the plug is for that you have found but the trailer wiring harness available for you vehicle, # 118675, would not use it anyway. This harness plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you.
