Recommendation for Rear Towing Hitch for 2012 Dutchmen Coleman 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

We have a 2012 Dutchman Coleman 5th wheel CTF259RE. We want to pull a utility trailer and side by side behind it. First of all is the trailer capable of towing and if so what hitch would you recommend?

We can help you select a hitch for the back of your 2012 Dutchman Coleman 5th wheel trailer model CTF259RE.

RV hitches come in two basic varieties, frame-mount and bumper-mount. The highest towing capacity (5000-lbs) will come from a frame-mounted hitch, like the Curt # C13702, which fits trailer frame widths from 18- to 51-inches (measured from the outsides of the frame rails). Based on review of photos of your trailer it appears to have a 4 x 4-inch bumper which would allow installation of a 3500-lb-rated bumper-mount hitch like # E-100. All options are shown on the linked page.

A good way to go is to contact Dutchmen with your trailer's VIN. This will help them determine the safest hitch installation for your particular trailer. They may also be able to guide you about the trailer's maximum towing capacity, which could be different from the hitch's capacity. The lowest-rated item always determines the overall system limit.

Towing a trailer with a trailer is not legal in all states and provinces. I suggest you check with your local highway patrol about the legality of linking multiple trailers together behind a pickup in the regions where you intend to travel.
