Installing Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Controller, 2008 Chevy 3500 with Factory Brake Controller  

Question:

I have a 08 chevy 3500 with factory brake controller, it works my trailers with electric brakes fine but will not work the one with electric over hydraulic.Is the P3 the best controller for me and do I have to unhook the factory controller?

We actually have an FAQ article that explains the step by step process of installing an aftermarket brake controller on your truck. I have added the link below. You will not have to remove the factory controller from the truck. Instead, you will be bypassing it. You will need to add enough 10 gauge blue wire, # 10-1-1, to reach from the cab of the truck to the 7-Way at the rear of the truck. It is sold in 1 foot increments so a quantity of 1 would be 1 foot. I would recommend at least 20 feet.

The Tekonsha P3, # 90195, would be a great choice for a trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes. This brake controller can actually be programmed with different settings for trailers with just electric brakes and then, with the push of a button, it can switch to saved settings for a trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes.
