Recommended Proportional Brake Controller for 2015 Ford F-150 with # 22292 Adapter

Question:

I currently have a Draw-Tite 5504 timed response brake controller, but dont like how it brakes on my 29 foot travel trailer 8500 lb loaded weight. I asked my local dealer about a proportional controller but was told they no longer install them because they have to be mounted a specific way, level, and are not as reliable. Would there be any good quality proportional controllers that would simply use the plug I have now on my 2015 F150?
