Can a Trailer with 13 Inch Tires and Wheels Use 14 Inch Tires and Wheels

Question:

I have a pop up camper with 13X4.5 wheels. I would like to upgrade to a more road worthy tire and wheel. I had a blowout and it bent the rim quite a bit so now to have a spare i need a new one anyway. There is quite a bit of clearance on my camper and I would like to use larger rims and tires and would like a suggestion on what would be feasible. Something in the 14X5 range?

If you have the clearance vertically and horizontally around the existing tires you can go to a larger size tire and wheel. Keep in mind that going to a larger size will not increase the capacity of the trailer.

Radial tires are best since they run cooler and track better than bias tires. For any trailer tire inflate to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. Otherwise, the thick sidewall of trailer tires will build up excessive heat and that is the main cause of trailer tire blowouts.

We have lots of 14-inch tire and wheel combos and I have included a link to them for you. In that link there are both radial and bias tires. You can narrow the results using the navigation on the left side of the page.

I recommend the 205/75-14 on a white spoke steel wheel # TTWA14RWS. It is rated for 1,760 pounds at 50 psi. It has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. I have linked a video review for you.
