How to Make it Easier to Hitch and Un-Hitch 2015 Momentum 385TH 5th Wheel with Rota-Flex Pin Box
Question:
We have a 2015 Momentum 385TH with a Rotoflex pin box. It is very difficult to unhook from the truck every time we go out with it. The Rotoflex doesnt seem to pivot at all. It is tight and stays the in the same position. We have been pulling the camper like this for 2 years and were told by the dealer that its supposed to be that way. Common sense tells us its supposed to flex with the movement of the truck. How can we adjust this to move and flex correctly? Any and all advice appreciated.

The Rota-Flex pin boxes like # LC328330 are designed to pivot front-to-back to reduce chucking while you tow but they are not able to pivot side-to-side to make hitching and un-hitching easier when your truck and Grand Design 5th wheel are not both perfectly level. For that concern a 360-degree-pivoting 5th wheel hitch like the 24K Curt # C16245 will help.
This hitch head can pivot in any direction, which means that when your trailer's king pin is not perfectly level and straight the hitch can move with it to reduce the tension on it. This will make it easier to hitch and unhitch the trailer. Since your 385TH has a gross weight of 19,500-lbs I suggest this 24K-rated fixed hitch which fits industry standard base rails.
