Using a Rhino-Rack Roof Rack to Go Off-Road on a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Question:

Looking at the rhino site they seem to have across the board advice to half the capacity of their racks when used off-road, but is there something about the Vortex 2500 RS that makes it less suitable for off-road use than the other rhino roof racks? I have a 2016 Chevy Colorado with bare roof, and the low profile of the RS rack system appeals to me. Thanks!

The Rhino-Rack ROC25 Vortex # RR93GR is an aerodynamic, low profile rack. I verified with Rhino-Rack that the bars are just as strong as the Rhino-Rack heavy-duty racks, however since the bars fit directly into the feet and do not have any over hang there is more weight being forced directly down onto the center of the bars and less weight being distributed across them.

For a more rugged roof rack I suggest the 2500 Heavy-Duty Rack that consists of the 54 inch crossbars # RB1375B-2, the 2500 Series Legs for Heavy-Duty # RRRLKHD, and the Custom DK Fit Kit # DK330.

The heavy-duty rack is mainly intended for heavier cargo and the C-channels are built to mount Rhino-Rack specific contractor-grade accessories.
