How Long Would an Axle have to be to Use 15 Inch Tires on a Trailer that is 60 Inches Wide
Question:
My trailer is 60 inches wide and has 13 inch wheels on it. I want to put 15 inch wheels on it but the wheels are to wide, they touch the trailer before I even get them on the hubs. Question is how long of an axle do I need to accommodate a 60 inch wide trailer and 15 inch wheels? Thank you.

Expert Reply:
An ST205/75-15 tire will be about 8 inches wide. Assuming the wheels you use have a zero offset the minimum length of the axle, measured from hub face to hub face, would need to be 70 inches. The axles that we have that are 72 inches long are all either 2,000 or 2,200 pound axles.
