Easiest to Connect/Disconnect Flat Towing Setup Recommendation for 2016 Subaru Forester

Question:

I just purchased a 2016 subaru forester manual trans. non-turbo to tow behind our class A motorhome, and was wondering what is the best towing setup to purchase that is the easiest to hook up and unhook. Im 60 years old and dont want to have to struggle with it. Thanks

I like the Blue Ox flat towing setups the best as they are the easiest to connect/disconnect. I had the chance to compare the Blue Ox and Roadmaster stuff and while they are both great the Blue Ox setups were just easier to use. The triple lug attachment for the base plate kits is very easy to use and their tow bars can twist in more directions which allows them to not bind up hardly at all.

For your 2016 Subaru Forester the Blue Ox Base Plate kit part # BX3619 is a confirmed fit and would be what I recommend. The Avail part # BX7420 is the one of the nicest and easiest to use tow bars on the market. It has telescoping arms that make it incredibly easy to connect and disconnect. Most tow bars are hard to disconnect if there is even a slight elevation change as the components get bound up. The arms and swiveling head prevent that as it allows you to relieve all of that pressure.

For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight housing. This will splice into your taillight wiring to allow your tow vehicle to control the taillight assemblies of the towed vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The supplemental braking system you would want is the SMI Duo part # SM99251. It requires a professional install but once installed it would be very easy to use and wouldn't require you to install and remove anything when you want to drive the car/tow the car.

Most likely you will also need a high low adapter so that the tow bar will be level when you are flat towing. I attached a link to a page that has all of the ones we carry.

I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.
