Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2017 Ram 2500 With Factory Rail System

Question:

I would prefer a fifth wheel hitch all in one Unit for my new Ram 2017 2500 truck with six foot bed. The truck has the 4 factory pucks in place. I have two questions. 1st which hitch in your opinion would be better the Reese or BandW. I like the features on the BandW. I just know nothing about the quality. The BandW coasts about the same as the Reese. I already have a rese 16 k. I know they make a rail kit for my existing hitch, but you can not lift the hitch out as a unit. I have a portable lift crane so lifting out the unit will be no problem. I would also like to thank you for the advice on the curt hitch not being compatible with my side winder pin box. My fifth wheel is a 2014 rockwood ultra lite 1000 pound pin weight, And approximately 8000 gvwr. It also has a side winder pin box. Thank you

My recommendation for a fifth wheel hitch that will work with the pucks in the bed of your 2017 Ram 3500 is the B&W Companion, part # BWRVK3600. You will want to make sure there have been no changes to the puck system to accommodate the Companion.

This hitch fits right in the pucks and no additional rails are needed as you expressed you want. This is a quality hitch with 1-inch dual jaws that provide 360-degree jaw-to-king-pin contact. The gross towing capacity for this hitch is 25,000-lbs.

If you do not have an adapter to lift the hitch I recommend the Demco 5th Wheel Lifting Bracket, part # DM6100. This fits into the jaws of the hitch and has an eye on the top you can attach your lift to. This bracket has a 500-lb weight capacity.
