How to Get More Clearance Between Bed Rail of Truck and Fifth Wheel Trailer Overhang

Question:

I just bought my first 5th wheel RV. It is a 1990 King of the Road. My pickup is a 2015 3500 Ram 4 wheel drive. I bought a nice Companion trailer hitch that utilizes the turn over ball system. my clearance for the sides of the pickup is only about an inch. what can I do other than sell the RV or the truck?

You do need more clearance between the overhang of your fifth wheel trailer and you bed rails. We recommend 6 inches or at the very least 4 inches if you are super careful.

What you would want to do is raise the head of the fifth wheel as tall as it can go to get more clearance. You also can lower the pin box in the mounting holes of the trailer to get more height as well.

Ideally you want to have the 6 inches of clearance plus have the trailer being towed level.
