Testing Electric Brakes Wiring On 2007 Camper Trailer

Question:

Hello, Im in the process of changing my left brake assembly AKEBRK-35L-SA. Im a little confused on the wiring. Yesterday I changed the right side and the magnet wiring connected directly to both leads coming out of the axle. BTW the brakes did not seem to work afterwards. But I still need to go through the initialization period. Today the left side looks a bit different. The blue wire from the trailer connects directly into the axle. Spliced into that blue wire before it enters the axle is the brake magnet wire. There is also a white wire ground? spliced to the second wire in the axle. The unused remaining magnet wire did not seem to be connected to anything but it is flattened as if it was used as a ground between the mounting plates. But there is no obvious conductor evident. Im just wondering if this sounds correct to you. And Im wondering if it would be best to connect the second magnet wire directly to the white wire or just to the body of the trailer.

As far as wiring the brakes on your trailer, there is no polarity on the brake magnets so the wiring is really quite simple.

Just attach one wire to the wire that carries the brake signal form the tow vehicle and the other wire needs to be grounded to the trailer frame.

You can use a circuit tester like part # 40376 to test the wiring on the trailer. Have someone apply the manual override on the brake controller while you test the wires.
