Weight Distribution and Shank with 12 Inches Drop for a 2012 Ram 3500 and 11,000 Pound Trailer

Question:

We are looking at blue ox sway pro distribution w/ sway control clamp on 15000 lbs gtw, 1500 tw. We have a 2012 dodge ram 3500 and a travel trailer that weighs around 11,000 loaded. Is that the best option for us as far as sway bars? With that one we will have to turn it upside down to get enough adjustment. We need something with more adjustment than that one but cant find anything , we need like 12 inches down of adjustment to make it level.

The Blue Ox Sway Pro weight distribution system # BXW1500 is rated for 1,000 to 1,500 pounds tongue weight. A trailer that weights 11,000 pounds will have a tongue weight of around 1,100 pounds to 1,650 pounds (10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. You also have to add in the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the truck.

If the total tongue weight stays within the 1,000 to 1,500 pound range then this system will work. The shank that is included has a maximum drop of 2 inches. If you need a shank that can offer 12 inches of drop then you would need to use # C17125. If you placed the weight distribution head in the second to last mounting location it will provide a drop of 12-1/2 inches.

For a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball for the Sway Pro system use # C40030. I have included some links on weight distribution and determining tongue weight for you.
