Towing a Trailer and Carrying a Bike Rack at the Same Time with a 3 Inch Lifted Truck
Question:
Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2inch Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Code: D210 We are looking for a similar product as the one above but with a 6inch drop on the ball mount instead of 2inch . We wish to pull a small trailer behind our 3inch lifted 2016 4Runner and also have a hitch mounted bike rack 1upusa version. Does such a dual purpose hitch mount exist???

Expert Reply:
The Curt multipurpose ball mount # D210 with a 2 inch drop and a similar Maxxtow model are the only ones available. You could use your bike rack in a front mount hitch, # C31076 for SR5 or Trail Editions of the 2016 4Runner or # C31054 for Limited models. Or you could compensate for the height difference by raising the height of the trailer.
If you do think raising the trailer is the way to go then you may be able to use an over/under conversion kit if:
The trailer leaf spring stack is currently mounted under the axles
The trailer uses double-eye springs
And the trailer has 2-3/8 inch or 3 inch diameter round axles
For a 2-3/8 inch round axle use # K71-384-00 and for a 3 inch diameter axle use # K71-385-00.
If you cannot use an over/under conversion kit then the only other way to raise the height of the trailer is to have the old suspension hangers cut off and new, taller ones welded on by a qualified professional welder. I have included a link to the hanger main page for you.
