Circuit Breaker and Battery Isolator for 12 Volt Trailer Connector Circuit on 2010 Ford Ranger
Question:
I asked a question before and have one additional question How to Charge Trailer Battery with Tow Vehicle While Travelling Question: I wish to hook up a feed wire to charge my camp trailer battery while I drive to the campsite. I have a 2010 ford ranger . where do I hook up the wire on the truck? from the tailight or under the dash? I dont know plz advise thx Expert Reply: You would need to run a 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 sold by the foot from the positive post of your battery to the 12 volt accessory circuit of your 7-way and then on the trailer use the same circuit to run to the positive post of your trailer battery. You should note this will only really do a maintenance charge on a full size battery. On the part # 37185 that you referenced the black wire of the adapter would be the one that would run to the battery of the Ranger. My other question would be wouldnt you have to put this circuit on some sort of circuit breaker and possibly a battery isolator?

On your 2010 Ford Ranger you would attach the 12 volt power wire to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker # PK54540. A wire will go from the positive terminal to the BAT post on the breaker. Then another wire will go from the AUX post of the breaker back to the 7-Way trailer connector and attach at the back in the 11 o'clock position.
The circuit will be hot all the time. This is fine if nothing is drawing power from it. If you want the 12 volt circuit to only work when the truck key is in the on position or the truck is running then you would need a battery isolator, # PK5231201, and it can go either before or after the circuit breaker.
