Can Curt Q16 Slider Hitch Be Used in Longbed Truck

Question:

Hello. A while back I purchased the Curt Q16 sliding hitch for my 2014 ram 1500 6 1/3 bed. Well, now im upgrading to a 2001 dodge ram 2500 long bed. My question is, can I use the sliding hitch in the long bed truck? Thank you.

Long-bed pickups do not need slider hitches since they already provide adequate turning clearance for making turns with your 5th wheel. However, you can use the slider hitch in the long-bed. You will NOT want to release the slider at any time. Simply keep the hitch locked in its forward-most position, its normal towing position, and do not slide it back to the maneuvering position. Doing this would place the trailer pin weight far behind the rear axle which is unsafe.

If you need a 5th wheel hitch install kit for the truck, you can use the custom kit # HT31404-686 from Husky. This includes frame brackets, hardware and the base rails for the truck bed. Your Curt Q16 will fit into these rails.

If you need a wiring harness for the new truck, you can use part # HM42137.
