How do I know the weight of my trailer and boat in order to purchase the correst one

Your trailer should have a tag somewhere near the coupler or at the front which says what the GVWR and the dry weight is. Dry weight is what the trailer weighs when it doesn't have a load (your boat) in it. Then what you'll need to do is take your loaded boat trailer to a weigh station and see how much it all weighs. It would be beneficial to have everything loaded up as if you were going on a trip so you know what the max weight is. If you're talking about just the tongue weight then you can still find that out at a weigh station or you can use a scale like part # e99044.
