What is the Best Kind of Truck for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I recently bought a 5th wheel camper with a dry weight of 9000 lbs. What size truck and type of motor should I have to tow it. I am new to this but am doing my research so I dont ruin anything.

The best trucks for heavy duty towing are going to be 1-ton trucks like a Ford F-350, Chevy Silverado 3500 or Ram 3500. A long bed is best because short bed trucks will require additional equipment to be able to tow the trailer without clearance problems when turning. As far as the motor I recommend one with a diesel motor because they have more torque across the RPM spectrum and they last a very long time.

Generally speaking the newer the truck the higher its towing capacity will be. Trucks 20 years ago have much lower capacities than current models.

So let's say you decided on a 2016 Ram 3500. You can get this truck with the factory rail kit so you can get a 5th wheel hitch that is a direct fit without having to also purchase a separate installation kit. For a hitch that fits directly in this truck the most popular option is # BWRVK3600 from B&W. I have linked a video review of this hitch for you.
