Troubleshooting Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera Showing No Power

Question:

I pull a trailer so I know my 7-pin wires all work. I plugged in the 7-pin, plugged in the plate camera plug and plugged in the monitor. Used the dielectric grease on the 7-pin plug. Nothing. Monitor is as dead as a door nail. I worked the 7-pin connection many times. All of the tabs connections in the plug got the grease on them so I know Im making contact. Waht now?

You may want to enlist the help of someone and use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. Have them put the vehicle in reverse while the emergency brake is applied and applying pressure to the brake pedal. The camera and monitor will not come on unless the vehicle is put in reverse.

If the pin does not show power, then you will need to trace the wire for the reverse light circuit and attach to the center pin of the vehicle 7-way.

If the pin does show power when in reverse, you will want to check the wire going from the camera to the monitor. Make sure it is not crimped or damaged.
