Weight Distribution for a 1993 Chevy S-10 Blazer and 3,500 Pound Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a 1993 S10 Blazer with a 4.3L Motor and a 1994 ABI Award 23 foot trailer 3500 Lbs. The tongue weight is only 278 Lbs. Pulling the trailer without a WD hitch is a bit difficult because rough roads and bumps can really bounce the truck and trailer. A Valley 800-1200 TW hitch came included with the trailer but that doesnt seem right for this setup. It must weigh 100 lbs all by itself and has a 2-5/8 ball. This was just thrown in. What would you recommend for a WD hitch. Thanks

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
Like you said the 800 to 1,200 pound system you have is rated much too high for a tongue weight of 278 pounds. I recommend a system that maxes out at 600 pounds, # EQ37060ET, so that it will be effective and not damage the trailer frame. The ride will also be much less stiff/rough than the 1,200 pound system you have now.
You can also add friction sway control to this system using # 17200.
