Brake Controller and Install Harness Recommendation for 2004 Dodge Durango

Question:

Factory installed 7 pin wire harness, but trailer brake lights dont work. Turn signals, running lights all work, but not brakes. It appears that brake lights are on their own wire on the vehicle side, not tied into turn signal, but all wiring diagrams I find say that tail lights and brakes should be on same wire????

You need to have a brake controller installed in your 2004 Dodge Durango to be able to control your trailer's brakes. The stop light signal wouldn't be a safe way to apply the trailer brakes as they would just lock up immediately. A brake controller applies the brakes in a safe controlled way for safe stopping.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.

And then all you would need to install the controller is the install harness part # 3020-P which is a confirmed fit.
