2015 Ford Transit Solutions for 2015 Ford Transit that Overheats When Towing in Warm Weather

Question:

Have a 2015 Ford Transit with the 3.5L ecoboost. We use it to tow our 4000# 19foot travel trailer to Utah and California. When the ambient temps are 90, the engine temps get above normal and the engine frequently cuts power to reduce engine temperature. I cant fit a larger radiator in our van. Would a Derale engine oil cooler do anything to lower my coolant temps? What other options do I have to help our van run cooler? The transmission has a small auxiliary cooler that attaches to the side of the radiator. So a larger transmission cooler wouldnt help lower the radiator temps.

An oil cooler would be exactly what you would need to keep your 2015 Ford Transit from getting too hot when towing. I did some checking and the oil filter threads you would have on your van would be 22 mm x 1.5 mm which is a size that the Derale Cooler part # D15502 is compatible with.

You can also look into running distilled water in your radiator during the summer months this will also drastically reduce coolant temperatures. There's a product called Water Wetter that helps as well. You HAVE to go back to an anti-freeze mix if you ever will be in below freezing temperatures though.
