Initial Adjustment of Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Drum Brakes
Question:
I recently purchased the Dexter 10inch self adjusting brakes. The question I have is for initial adjustement I can either manually set the brakes so they just drag then let them adjust themselves or set them up manually. DO they adjust moving forward or going in reverse similar to the older self adjusting brakes on my car? does the adjustment wheel turn down to adjust or up? Thanks in advance

Expert Reply:
Dexter 10-Inch Nev-R-Adjust electric drum brakes # 23-468 and # 23-469 have a star wheel for initial adjustment, just like regular brakes do, but with these self-adjusting brakes you'll mount them and install your wheel/tire and then rotate the tire so that the internal mechanism can sense the pad tension and self-adjust accordingly. You do not want to set the tension high beforehand as the brake will not be able to release that tension. Please refer to the linked video that explains the initial adjustment process.
