Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with Factory Gooseneck Hitch in a 2006 Ford F-350

Question:

Im looking to install a hitch for a 5th wheel travel trailer. My truck has the under bed gooseneck setup, with a ball that is stored upside down when not in use and the chain loops are installed in the bed. Is there a 5th wheel hitch that can be installed without removing the brackets already installed on the frame? Is there anyone that knows what brand of hitch Ford was using in 2006? It has really heavy duty brackets and I sure would like to take advantage of them. The truck has the camper pkg and tow boss pkg, trailer tow pkg. it has the round post style for the ball. Any advice would sure be appreciated. Photo of bracket, ball rated at 30000, if that means anything.

I don't know who made the OEM gooseneck hitch for Ford in 2006 but you will be able to tow a 5th wheel trailer without having to add a different hitch. There are adapters that you can use instead.

For example one of the more popular options is the Anderson Ranch Hitch, # AM3100. I have linked a video review of this adapter for you.

Another option is to use a Reese Goose Box. There are a few different ones available and they fit specific 5th wheel trailer pin boxes:

# RP85FR fits Lippert 1621, and 1621HD pin boxes and is rated for 20,000 pounds

# RP94716-61301 fits Lippert 0115, 1116 and 1716 pin boxes and is rated for 16,000 pounds

The other option is to remove the factory gooseneck hitch and its brackets and install a 5th wheel set up in its place. This is the better option if your 2006 Ford F-350 happens to be a short bed because you would need a slider hitch to get the clearance needed to make tight turns.

I recommend the Demco hitch using installation kit # DM8551000, which is an underbed system so the bed will be clear when the hitch is removed, and the Demco Hijacker # DM8550037 for a short bed or # DM8550032 for a long bed. I have linked some video reviews for you.
