How Weatherproof is the Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing Gear Switch
Question:
The description gives an IP rating for his landing gear switch. Does that mean it is weatherproof? I need to do a retrofit and need a switch that can be exposed to the elements. The existing switch location will not allow a hatch to protect a non-sealed switch assembly.

I contacted my tech contact at Stromberg Carlson and he said the OEM standard practice of mounting these switches is in a compartment but they also mount outside under overhangs. However, the IP rating does offer strong weather resistance but he recommends mounting it under an overhang for a longer life span.
Many of our customers mount this switch under their overhang and have not had problems with the weatherproofing of this switch.
