Will a 4.80-8 Trailer Tire Fit in Place of a 4.00-8 Tire

Question:

I have seed planter with implement tires of 4.00 x 8. Will a 4.80 tire fit?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Yes, a 4.80-8 tire will fit in place of a 4.00-8 tire. That is why a lot of times you will see both sizes in the product's title or description and even on the actual tire, such as # AM10002. This is a load range B tire rated for 590 pounds at 60 psi. I have linked a video review of this tire for you.

I know, this is almost the same question as one that was previously posted, but I'm looking for confirmation as I want to do the reverse, and I am talking about tiller tires, which have a much more "aggressive" tread. So here goes... my Ariens RT8020 roto tiller currently has 4.80-8 tires on it. Will 4.00-8 tires fit the rims? What is the actual difference, are they just not quite as wide?

You won't have any problem at all replacing 4.80-8 tires with 4.00-8 units (using the same rims). These tires are completely interchangeable and essentially the same size. The 4.00-8 represents the older designation that was used for this size, but it has since been changed to 4.80-8.
