Why Would Tekonsha P2 Brake Controller Show Intermittent NC and C on Display While Travelling

Question:

Hello, I have my P2 in my truck for about 2 years. It has worked well, and still is. However, I have noticed an occasional different behavior. Once in a while, when towing my trailer, the P2 display will change from .cinch to n.cinch and flash. The flashing will occur for several seconds, then the display will revert to the .c Normally, this is not a problem. However, while driving last week, the controller started flashing n.c when I needed the brakes! Needless to say, the trailer brakes did not actuate. Fortunately, the P2 went back into .cinch mode, and the trailer brakes worked fine. What is causing the P2 to switch to the not connected mode? I have checked my 7-pin connection, and it is secure. Thank you.

An intermittent connection on the brake output circuit of your vehicle/trailer is causing the NC to flash occasionally. Nearly every time we see this the problem is dirt or corrosion built up on the trailer or vehicle connector. Cleaning this with some fine grit sandpaper will most likely do the trick.

I attached a help article on troubleshooting brake controller installs for you to check out as well.
