I have attached a page from the installation instructions for a fifth wheel hitch you can check out. In the instructions it describes how to line up the trailer with the skid plate on the fifth wheel hitch in the bed of your truck.
You will want at least 5 or 6 inches between the overhang of the trailer and the bedrails. You also want to make sure your trailer is being towed level.
