Adapter to Convert 4-Pole Trailer Connector on 2002 Acura MDX to 5-Pole for Boat Trailer Actuator

Question:

Hi, I currently have a 2002 Acura MDX with 4 plug wire harness. My boat trailer has a 5 plug. Is there an easy way to convert my MDX from 4 plug to a 5 plug? Or maybe I should just get a whole new harness for the MDX thats 5 plug to begin with. Any suggestions? Thanks.

We offer a handy plug-in wiring adapter # 20036 that will allow you to easily convert your MDX 4-pole wiring to a 5-pole format to match your boat trailer. The kit includes a quick-splice connector to allow you to connect the 5th wire (the single blue one) to the car's reverse light circuit. This will capture the reverse light signal required to activate your trailer coupler's reverse lockout.

A circuit tester like # PTW2993 makes it easier to find the correct wire at the car's taillight assembly.
Have an adult helper shift the car into reverse (while the emergency/parking brake is engaged and with their foot on the brake pedal) as you apply the tester to the wires to find the one that carries the reverse light signal. This is the wire that taps into the blue wire on the adapter kit. A sample installation video is linked to illustrate.
