If my wife drove "our" 2013 Mustang then we'd switch cars, but in any case you are absolutely on the right track in thinking about going the hitch route instead of using a trunk-mount bike rack. Hitch racks place the total rack/bike weight burden on the car's frame, it's strongest part, and avoid the potential for scratches on your trunk lid. As a bonus, you also then have the ability to use other hitch-mounted accessory items, such as a cargo carrier.
Your 2013 Mustang convertible can be fitted with a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I type hitch, such as Draw-Tite # 24863. Installation of this item is shown in the linked video and the written instructions are included as well.
With this hitch installed you can use a compatible 2-bike Class I bike carrier. Please note that a Class I hitch can only handle the weight of 2 bikes. I have linked for you our page for 2-bike Class I racks which include both the hanging and platform styles.
Based on its installation position on the car the Draw-Tite hitch requires you to use a rack that has at least 9-inches of clearance from its hitch pin hole. This will ensure that the rack does not make contact with the bumper cover. For a platform style rack you can use the Swagman XC # S64650 which provides 10-1/2-inches of clearance from the hitch pin hole. With it you can use hitch lock # SHP2082 to lock the rack and cable lock # e98891 to lock the bikes.
If you prefer a frame-mount hanging rack you might like the Thule Camber 2 part # TH9058 which is USA-made and which also fits both hitch sizes.
Videos for all three bike racks mentioned are linked for you along with a helpful article on how to select the best rack for your bikes.
