The 2005 Smart fortwo was not officially imported into the U.S. auto market so none of our hitch manufacturers show a hitch fit for it.
Your best option for transporting your camping gear is to use a roof-mounted fabric cargo bag like the Rightline # RL100S30 or one of the other weather-proof bags shown on the linked page. These bags all work on a bare roof, no roof rack needed, and they are available in various sizes. It is a good idea to check your manual for a roof weight capacity rating for the vehicle before loading your cargo. You may want to use protective pad # RL100650 to avoid scratches to your paint and car clips # RL100600 for easier installation.
You can also check your owner's manual for your 2005 Smart fortwo to see if the car even has a rated towing capacity. This is very unlikely, I'm afraid. Such a small vehicle is not designed to pull more than a 2-person passenger load. Even some cars that are substantially larger than the fortwo are not rated by their maker to pull any size trailer of any weight.
