In order to have a fully functional 7-Way trailer connector on your 2016 Kia Sorento, you will want to install the 7-Way and 4-Way Universal Installation Kit for Brake Controllers # ETBC7. This kit includes a 7-Way blade-style connector that will work for you to connect your trailer to your Sorento. The 7-Way connector will install by plugging into your existing 4-Way connector, and the wiring needed to make the remaining connections and to install a brake controller is included with the kit.

Since there are additional functions available with a 7-Way connector, such as the trailer brake signal and a 12V hot lead, some extra connections will need to be made on the vehicle in order for the 7-Way to be fully functional. The installation instructions for the # ETBC7 kit are linked for you and they will walk you through these additional connections.

If your trailer does not need the trailer brake signal or a 12V hot lead circuits, then you can use an adapter that does not come with the additional wiring, like 7-Way and 4-Way # 37185 or just a 7-Way # 30717. These adapters will plug into your Sorento's existing 4-Way and will provide stop, turn, and taillight functions for your trailer.

If your trailer does have electric brakes and you are in need of a brake controller, I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 because it is a top of the line brake controller. The Prodigy P3 features a customizable LCD display, storable settings, 3 boost levels, battery protection, and continuous diagnostics. I have linked a review video of this controller for you.
