Recommended Method to Transport 2 Surfboards on 2000 Toyota Echo 2-Door with Bare Roof

Question:

Hi there! I have a TWO door toyota echo, 2000 model. I want to be able to transport surfboards just one or two max on the roof. I have nothing on the roof at this moment in time. I was looking at all the racks you have and this one looks good to me...SR1002. Will it fit on my car? I believe I also have to buy the short roof adaptors so I can put the boards on...SR1116. Is this correct??? What else would I need to purchase to be able to carry the boards? I would like to be able to go on the freeway speeds of 70 mph will this rack keep my boards stable?? Thanks so much for your help!!!

The SportRack # SR1002 roof rack will not fit on your 2000 Toyota Echo 2-door, but another rack from SportRack will, their semi-custom system # SR1003 and short-roof adapter # SR1116. But because this rack is designed to fit so many different cars, its fit on any given one will not be as secure as with one of the costlier custom-fit racks.

But if these roof racks do not fit your budget I can still offer you an effective and very low-cost solution for carrying two surfboards on your 2000 Echo 2-door. We offer a foam block type carrier from Malone, their # MPG152, which does not require you to install a roof rack. These foam blocks rest directly on the bare roof and work with surf boards, paddle boards, kayaks and canoes! You'll just want to add the Cam Buckle Cinch Straps # E98876-2, a set for each board.

It is a good idea to check your Echo owner's manual to confirm that your boards' total weight will not exceed the car's capacity. You'll also want to ensure the roof and blocks are free or dirt or grit that could cause scratches to your paint.
