Recommend Weight Distribution System and Powered Jack Recommendation for a 9,000 lb Trailer

Question:

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra 2500hd . Trailer is a 30foot haulmark edge it weighs 5300lbs , with car , quad, generator , fuel and tools Im under 9,000lbs . I have not picked up trailer yet so I do not know exact tongue weight. Would you be able to recommend a good weight distributing hitch and electric jack ? I have been leaning towards the blue ox and a husky jack . Thanks

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Most likely your tongue weight is going to be between 900 and 1,350 lbs. So for a weight distribution system I would recommend the Strait Line system part # RP66130 as it has a tongue weight range of 800 to 1,500 lbs and features the only active sway control designed to fight sway before it starts. Then for a shank you would need the part # RP54970 which has the same 15k total capacity as the WD system.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.

Blue Ox makes decent WD systems, but the Strait-Line systems out perform and are more reliable.

I think the best value for an A-frame tongue jack is the Stromberg Carlson # SC63VR which is rated for 4500 pounds of tongue weight. This is 1000 pounds more than other models, and even though you may not need this much capacity, you will find that the jack motor runs quick and effortlessly. This will add years to its life. This jack also has a unique clutch that prevents damage from overextending or retracting the jack foot - the most common reason for jack failure. I also like that is has a generous 23" lift, including a time-saving drop-foot. It includes LED lights for operating the hitch in the dark, and a built-in bullseye leveling bubble.
