Troubleshooting Brake Controller On 2006 Chevrolet Silverado That Is Getting No Power

Question:

Im having the exact same issue with no power to the controller under the dash. Ive installed everything and the lights\signals all work correctly but no power to the controller. the harness I have is 51353 not 51352. I have a 2006 Silverado work truck. the wires under the hood, the red w/ ring terminal is already connected and the blue has the round connector but cant find what that goes too. do I need to exchange the harness? hope this is enough info. thanks.

The plug-in adapter you have on your Silverado is the correct one. We buy them in bulk so the number can be different, but I did verify that the harness you have will work fine.

You need to disconnect the plug-in adapter and find the vehicle side pin that matches up with the pin on the plug-in adapter connected to the black pin. use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to make sure you are getting power.

I have attached a link to a helpful article that explains how to install a brake controller on your truck. In step 2 titled 'Under The Hood' the wiring connections are explained. The red wire should be attached to the closest positive post and a 30-amp fuse needs to be in the closest location to the positive post.

You should now have power to the brake controller. Before doing anything with the blue wire, go back to the 7-way connector on your truck and use a circuit tester like part # 3808 to test the brake output pin while someone uses the brake override on the brake controller. It should only show power when the override is used. If it does then just ignore the blue wire under the hood.

If you are not showing power on the 7-way test the blue wire under the hood with the override used. If that wire shows power when the override is used then clip off the connector. You will need to run a wire like part # 10-1-1 from the back of the 7-way connector to the front under the hood and attach it to the blue wire.
