Question:
I need to add a controller to our new pick up, is there some existing wiring under the dash to do this?

There is existing wiring under the dash on your 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. Your truck comes with a pre-wired factory tow package which means it is set up to easily install a brake controller. The plug-in wiring harness sits right under the dashboard above your brake pedal. This wiring harness has a plug-in end which will allow a brake controller to be easily installed without splicing or cutting into the wire.
I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 for your vehicle. This brake controller will fit right under your dash and plug into your factory installed wiring harness with wiring adapter # 3016. this brake controller is very popular with our customers because it has an LCD display which is used to troubleshoot problems in the system. It is also easy to install and set up with your trailer.
If you do not use a Tekonsha Brake Controller, Wiring Adapter # 3016-S is a Universal Adapter Pigtail which will plug into your factory installed wiring harness.
I have attached a review video of the Tekonsha Brake Controller you may want to check out.
