Troubleshooting P2 Brake Controller that Shows Braking Power without Brakes Applied

Question:

I have a 2002 Coleman Mesa with a 2008 Ford Explorer. My brake controller is a Prodigy P2. While towing the trailer this weekend the display showed 1.5. Display changes while driving without brakes being applied. When I braked the display would reduce to zero. Any suggestion.

Sounds like the red wire of your P2 part # 90885 is either shorting out to a circuit with 12 volts or connected to the wrong circuit.

Since the problem just started it sounds like a short. Check out the connection of the red wire and make sure it's securely connected to a circuit that sees 12 volts only when the brakes are applied.
