How to Wire a Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller to a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT

Question:

I want to know how to connect my brake controller on my 1500 LT 08 silverado. I have a Tekonsha Prodigy 90185. I heard I have to connect two wires under the hood. Is this true? If this is true where are those two wires exactly?

Yes, there are two wires that would need to be connected to a couple of posts on your power distribution block in your engine bay. This is a fairly easy process, it may take some time to locate those wires. Fortunately, we have a How-To article written up on how to do this that I have linked below. I will run through the process quickly below and add a link to the article to help fill in any blanks and provide some pictures.

Follow the instructions for the brake controller to mount it in your truck. You will match the loose wires on the truck to the wire leads on the controller. Red on truck to black on controller. Dark blue on truck to blue on controller. Light blue on truck to red on controller. White on truck to white on controller. If you have a brown or orange wire on the truck, that is used for illumination which is no longer needed on most brake controllers.

Once the controller is installed and wired, you can move to the engine bay. You will be looking for a wire, usually red, with a ring terminal on it in between the power block and the fender. This wire provides power to the controller. You will need an M6 nut, part # 185916, to attach the wire to the M6 post. See picture in article.

The second wire, usually black, will also have a ring terminal and can usually be found directly below the brake master cylinder. Attach this wire to the other post, use an M8 nut like part # 185917.

Finally, you may need a couple of automotive fuses, one 30 amp one 40 amp, to activate the brake controller power and 7-Way power feed. Most vehicles already have them, but not all so make sure you check for them.

In addition to the article, we also have a video that shows the entire procedure. I have added links to both below.
