Can Curt Weight Distribution System Use Larger Spring Bar Arms to Upgrade Tongue Weight

Question:

I have a 2011 Dodge Durango Crew AWD with the Hemi and I tow a 30 foot ultra-lite travel trailer behind it. The dry weight of the TT is 5900 lbs. Loaded for a typical weekend of camping the tongue weight is about 875 lbs. When I bought this camper the techs swapped my weight distribution over from my former 3600 lbs TT to the new camper. The system that I currently have is the Curt 17300 which is undersized for this new TT and I can tell when towing that the front end of my Durango is light - feels like it floats around. Is it possible to purchase just the trunnion bars from the 17302 kit? Is there a better recommendation? I do also have a friction anti-sway device that I use in conjunction with the TT. I also recently installed XL tires on the Durango and am running them at 36 psi which is whats on the door sticker.

It will certainly improve the ride and handling of your 2011 Dodge Durango to upgrade the spring bar arms on your Curt weight distribution system to accommodate the 875 pound tongue weight of your new travel trailer.

To replace your existing spring bars with those rated for up to 1,000 pounds of tongue weight, you will want 2 of part # C17303. This part number includes 1 trunnion arm, chain, and U-bolt. With 2 of # C17303, you can upgrade your existing system to work well with your 875 pound tongue weight.

I spoke with my contact at Curt and confirmed that the trunnion arms can be changed out on your system to work for your new travel trailer.
