Would 1,200 lb Tongue Weight Distribution System be Rated too Low for a 5,200 lb Trailer

Question:

hello I have a keystone bullet 27.2 travel trailer dry weigh 5200 lbs and cargo carring capacity of 2500 lbs, dry hitch weight of 530 lbs. I am trying to match up a weight distrubution hitch for this set up. I currently have a husky roundbar system. The capacity of the husky round bar that I have is 12000 lbs trailer weight and 800-1200 lbs spring Bar tounge rating. Is this too big of a hitch system for my set up or should I got with the next size down witch is 10000 lbs trailer hitch with 500-800 lbs spring Bartounge weight?

It is possible that your current WD system would be properly rated for your setup, but that most likely wouldn't happen unless your trailer was loaded to it's max rating and you had some cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Reason being that the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of a tow vehicle counts as tongue weight as well.

For a round bar setup that would basically be the next step down you would want the part # FA94-00-0800 which has a tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs.

For a hitch ball you then would want the part # EQ91-00-6100 for a 2-5/16 inch ball or part # A-90 for a 2 inch ball.
