Can 5.70-8 Tire/Wheel Combo Be Replaced With 215/60-8 Combo On Small Trailer

Question:

Want to see if I can use the Kenda 215/60-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8inch White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D on a 4 X 8 Trailer with a 5.70-8 tire and rim? I believe that I have enough room for the tire and can send a photo if you wish. Thanks

I do not think the diameter of the tire will pose any problem since a 215/60-8 tire is only about .20 of an inch bigger diameter. The problem you may have is the width of the rim. the width of a rim for the 5.70-8 wheel is 3-3/4 inches and the width of a rim for the 215/60-8 tire is 7 inches. The additional 3 plus inches may cause issues for clearance on the fenders and also on the inside of the wheel well. You may want to check the clearance you have with the smaller tires to be sure.

If you find you have enough room I recommend the Kenda Bias Trailer Tire, part # AM3H323 is a great tire/wheel combo. This is a Load Range D tire and it has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. The maximum load rating for this combo is 1,165 lbs at 70 psi. Please be aware that increasing the tire and wheel size on a trailer will not increase the load carrying capacity of the trailer.
