Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2010 Chevy Avalanche Towing a 5000 lb Dump Trailer
Question:
Im looking for which brake contoller would be best for me. I tow a 5x8 Brimar dump trailer with the cargo capacity of 5000 lbs. I usually haul light stuff but want the ability to not worry if i ever need to have a heavy load. My vehicle is a 2010 Chevy Avalanche. Thanks

Brake controllers are not vehicle or trailer specific, so most controllers would work fine for your application. This being said, the Tekonsha P2 you were looking at would be a good choice for your current set-up.
The P2 is a proportional-type controller that works to ensure both tow vehicle and trailer brake at the same rate, which makes for safer and more effective braking. The P2 features 3 different boost settings for more aggressive braking when towing heavier trailers.
The P2 will install to the tow package wiring located under the dash to the left of the steering column, above where your left leg would be while driving. Look for a bundle of wires with a white tag taped to it. This bundle will have 4 wires, a white, red, dark blue and a light blue wire with a white stripe. The red tow package wire will connect to the black wire on the controller, the dark blue tow package wire connects to the blue controller wire, the light blue tow package wire with the white stripe connects to the red controller wire, and the white wires connect together. You might also have a brown wire in the factory bundle, but this wire would not be used.
I will include a link below to the install/setup instructions for the P2 as well as a video showing the installation on a 2008 GMC Sierra. The install will be identical for your Avalanche.
