The Acura hitch may be a higher rated trailer hitch than the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75614. The difference is a result of how the hitch is made, the gauge steel used, and where it attaches on the vehicle. Many times, we rate hitches based on how much the vehicle can tow, but this is not always the case. Based on how we define hitches here, both the Draw-Tite hitch and the Acura hitch would be considered Class III hitches (rated up to 6,000/600 pounds). I have included a link to an FAQ on hitch classes below.

Another issue could be that the Acura hitch is considering the maximum capacity when using weight distribution. In this respect the Acura hitch and the Draw-Tite , # 75614, would have the same capacity. I have included a link to the installation details and a video install of this hitch below.

It is always a good idea to consult the owners manual for towing capacities. A hitch might be rated at 5,000 pounds but the vehicle can only pull 4,000. This is not always the case which is why it is a good idea to check.

I did a little research and found that if the 2008 Acura MDX is properly equipped the maximum it can tow is 5,000 pounds. Acura may only have that 1 hitch for that vehicle regardless of how it is equipped. So no matter what hitch you choose, I strongly recommend figuring out the true towing capacity of your vehicle as equipped either from the manual or from Acura.
