Thule Outbound Cargo Bag Part # TH868 for 2006 Subaru Forester with Factory Roof Rack

Question:

If this bag is attached directly to a factory roof rack 2006 Subaru Forester so that it sits on the roof rather than in a basket, will it abrade the cars paint over time? Is the material on the bottom the same as that on the rest of the bag or is it softer? Does the bag have padding on the bottom to help prevent damage to the cars roof?

The Thule OutBound Roof Bag, part # Th868 Has the same material on the bottom. While it is made to sit on the roof when needed, I would suggest a clean surface, a fresh coat of wax, and a Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad for Rightline Rooftop Cargo Bags, # RL100650.

The only sure way to prevent the possibility of the roof being scratched would be to use a cargo basket or box.
