Recommended Diode And Switch To Operate Interior Trailer Light When Not Attached To Truck
Question:
The lights inside my 5x8 enclosed trailer run off the 4 pin wiring when hooked to the truck. I need the ignition on for them to work. I would like to run the interior lights from a 12 volt battery when the trailer is not hooked to the car. I think I need alligator clips to 4 pin flat. Do they make something like that, or am I the only one? I get a blank stare when I ask someone. Thanks

I assume you want to have the lights work as they have with the truck attached and then you want to be able to turn the lights on when the trailer is not attached to the truck. I have attached a drawing that shows how the wiring can be run to give you that option.
I recommend a toggle switch like part # PK33300 and also a wiring diode like part # RM-790. You can use 16-ga wire like part # 16-1-1 for this. The # 16-1-1 is sold by the foot.
