Will the Bulldog Gooseneck Coupler, # BD0289500300 Fit Into an Existing Gooseneck Trailer Assembly

Question:

Our current gooseneck coupler pulled off a 2 5/16 receiving ball rather easily and would like to replace with something more heavy duty. Will the BD0289500300 coupler and tube slide into the existing assembly?

In order to determine if the Bulldog Gooseneck Coupler, # BD0289500300, will fit in your existing trailer assembly, you can measure the inner diameter of the assembly. The inner diameter will need to be greater than 4 inches. You most likely would not need the outer tube since it sounds like you already have one. However, if you decided to replace the whole assembly,, the outer tube would need to be welded to the trailer by a qualified professional.

Since the old coupler came off the ball so easily, I recommend checking the vertical weight (tongue weight) of the trailer to make sure it is 15 to 20 percent of the gross trailer weight. There may not have been enough vertical weight on the ball which could have caused the coupler to slip off.
