There are no plug-ins on your 1997 GMC Sierra 1500 for connecting a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, # 90885. You will have to hardwire the brake controller to your vehicle with the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7, which will require running some wires to the rear of your truck.
You already have one of the steps completed since you have the flat 4-Pole trailer connector installed on the rear of your vehicle. This flat 4-Pole will plug into the adapter on the # ETBC7 kit and give you a 7-Way and a 4-Way trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle.
We have detailed instructions and wiring diagrams to help you install the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7, and the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, # 90885. I am sending a link to the instructions on installing the brake controller and the # ETBC7 installation kit.
I am also sending a link to the instructions for the Prodigy brake controller.
