4-Way Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2016 Toyota Highlander LE Plus With Factory Tow Package

Question:

Hello. I have a 2016 Toyota Highlander LE Plus AWD and I wanted to know which Curt wiring harness I needed. The truck comes with tow prep package this year, from what I understand, but not sure which harness is required. I found the Curt 56217 and the 56042. Thank you in advance.

It sounds like your 2016 Toyota Highlander LE Plus AWD came with the tow prep package, if so then you will have a OEM port that the Curt # 56042 connector will plug directly into to provide you with a 4-way at the rear of your vehicle.

According to my information the location of that plug in connector will be inside the vehicle in the center under the driver side sub-floor cargo bin in the trunk. You have to take the bin out and you will see a 4 pin square plug, you plug the 4 flat connector in to that, and run the wire through a rubber grommet nearby to the exterior of the car.

If the Highlander didn't come with the tow package the Curt harness you will need is the # C56217.
