Troubleshooting Constant Power on Blue Brake Output Wire on Voyager Brake Controller
Question:
I have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 with 4 pin trailer hook up under dash. All wires are hooked up right on the Voyager controller but there is power coming out the blue trailer brake engager without pressing the pedal. The black is full power, white is ground, red is on when pedal is pressed. Can the controller just have died? Its about 9 yrs old. Thanks for help.

It does sound like there is a short to the brake controller through the wiring or in the internal circuitry of the brake controller. If your brake controller shows no red light, a dim or flashing red light, or the red light starts dim but gets brighter as the power knob is decreased, then this indicates a short to the brake line (blue wire).
You would need to check to make sure the wiring is intact on the harness and on your truck including the grounds. If you cannot find a wiring or ground issue, then something is wrong with the internal components of the brake controller and it will need to be replaced as there are no internal serviceable parts.
You can also try sliding the manual override all the way to the left and letting it snap back. Do this several times to clean the contacts and check for power on the blue wire again.
